China Clean Development Mechanism Fund Started the Green Bond Business

On October 24, China Clean Development Mechanism Fund (hereinafter referred to as “the CDM Fund”) successfully cooperated with CITIC Securities to purchase 2018 Green Corporate Bonds public issued by China Three Gorges Corporation, which signifies the CDM Fund gained pioneering progress in its main business during the course of promoting green development and ecological civilization construction under the new era.

Since foundation, the CDM Fund has been following the principle of “supporting national efforts in tackling climate change and facilitating economic and social sustainable development” as fully played the role of connecting the government and market under the overall plan of realizing balanced economic, political, cultural, social, and ecological progress put forward by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Sparing no efforts to perform duties and overcome difficulties, the CDM Fund successively implemented paid-use (including concessional loan, equity investment and financing guarantee etc.), grants and cash management business, which strongly supported national low-carbon industry transformation, capacity enhancement of combating climate change and construction of national carbon trade market.

Up to now, the CDM Fund has invested capital of RMB 16 billion, leveraged social capital of RMB 80 billion and directly and indirectly decreased carbon emissions by over ten million carbon dioxide equivalence. Starting green bond business stands asa milestone in business expansion of the CDM Fund after the paid-use and grants. This initiative will be beneficial to the expansion of the leading role of the CDM Fund in green and low-carbon construction and further elevate the demonstration effect.

The next step, the CDM Fund will continue to pay close attention to trends of the bond market, improve green bonds management system, gradually expand bond investment and make greater contributions to national green and low-carbon development through entering the field of bond market.
